1905* SPACE SHUTTLE 61 MISSION Nasa code STS061-77-016 Vintage chromogenic print on Kodak paper 20 x 25 cm Provenance: Italian private collection Space Shuttle Mission 61 was the first repair mission of the Hubble Space Telescope, lasting fromDecember 2 to 13, 1993. The mirror on the telescope, which had been put into orbit three years earlier, was faulty, resulting in blurry images. Astronaut Kathryn C. Thornton, seen in the foreground, participated in 2 of 5 outboard operations. During this mission, they installed the COSTAR system and the WF/PC-II camera, which successfully corrected the main mirror flaw. Kathryn C. Thornton spent a total of 975 hours in space, 21 hours being outside the spacecraft. Astronaut Thomas D. Akers can be seen at the bottom left. Swiss astronaut Claude Nicollier took part in this mission and was res- ponsible for operating the robot arm. Vintage chromogenic print on Kodak paper 20 x 25 cm STS-43 was the ninth flight of space shuttle Atlantis and the 42nd space shuttle mission. The picture shows the shuttle during its launch on August 2, 1991. Among the objectives of this mission were various experiments essential to constructing the International Space Station (ISS). On August 9, 1991, the first e-mail from space was sent to Johnson Space Center, which ended with the line „Hasta la vista, baby,... we‘ll be back!“. Launched on August 27, 1985, the mission‘s main objective was to put three communications satellites into orbit. During their flight, the crew photographed two powerful typhoons during their interaction: Typhoons Odessa (on the left) and Pat (on the right), which was the first time this phenomenon could be observed from above.
