1834 MOSASAURUS PLATECARPUS SP. Upper Cretaceous Morocco around 78-83 million years 120 x 40 x 40 cm Provenance: Swiss private collection Mosasaurus platecarpus belongs to the group of mosasaurs, which was a widespread reptile species in the Upper Cretaceous. They lived in the sea and were distributed all over the globe. The platecarpus was around seven metres long and equipped with lateral and tail fins. The skull is extremely speciated and highly mobile, which was an advantage for hunting small fish and belem- nites. The specimen presented here is in remarkable original condition with virtually no restorations, full dentition and complete upper cervical vertebrae. The fossil is between 78 and 83 million years old and was found near the Moroccan town of Khouribga.
