CHF 40 000 / 60 000 (€ 40 820 / 61 220) WORKS FROM A BASEL PRIVATE COLLECTION Erich Heckel and Emil Nolde, two leading figures at the forefront of German Expressionism. It is primarily from these two distinguished artists that we have the privilege of offering a series of remarkable works from a private collection in Basel. Nolde is represented by four especially beautiful and vividly coloured watercolours: an early and a late landscape, a figure painting and a still-life. Amongst the Heckel works is a particularly striking large-scale landscape from 1917 painted in tempera on canvas during his service as a military medic in Ostend. Six Heckel watercolours, some of which were sold directly through the Heckel estate, are exceptional examples of Heckel's mastery of the watercolour technique and pro- vide insight into the artist's work across various decades. The earliest and perhaps most exotic piece in this collection is a Fauvist painting by the French artist Auguste Herbin, created during a brief trip to the prominent Belgian city of Bruges. The collection also includes works by Otto Modersohn and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, as well as beautiful woodcuts by Heckel and lithographs by Sonia Delaunay (see Prints and Multiples auction on 22.6.23). We are particularly delighted to offer this carefully curated selection of high-quality works, assembled over the past decades, as part of our 2023 Summer Auction from a Basel private collection. | 40 Impressionist & Modern Art: A Basel Private Collection
