Provenance: - Richard A. Cohn, New York. - Auction Christie's, Amsterdam, 5.6.1996, lot 247. - Swiss private collection, acquired at the above auction. The present work is a study for the 1928 painting 'Ballsaal'. The oil-painting was owned by the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin until it was removed from the museum in 1937 as part of the 'confiscation of degenerate art'. Since then it had been presumed lost.
