Eine Schnecke kriecht an einem durchbrochenen Eimer, davor hockt eine Kröte und eine Schlange windet sich durch ein Loch. Symbolische Darstellung des ewigen Kreislaufes von Über- und Unter- legenheit in einer Pattsituation ohne Gewinner. Provenienz: Alte Schweizer Privatsammlung, durch Erbschaft an jetzi- gen Besitzer. Sansukumi steht für einen Zustand ständiger Spannung, in der sich alle Parteien gegenseitig beeinflussen: Die Kröte kann die Schnecke fres- sen, die für die Schlange giftig ist. A snail crawls on a broken bucket, a toad crouches in front and a snake writhes through a hole. Symbolic representation of the eternal cycle of superiority and inferiority without winners in a three-way deadlock. Provenance: Old Swiss private collection, thence by descent. Sansukumi refers to a state of constant tension in which all parties influence each other: the toad can eat the snail, which is poisonous to the snake.
