Die Schale ist in Form einer Rhinozeroshorn-Schnitzerei gestaltet, verziert mit Reliefdekor aus blühenden Pru- nus-Zweigen. Auf einem gelben Siena-Marmor-Sockel montiert. Auf der Unterseite altes Klebeetikett mit einer handschriftlichen Widmung von 1839. Provenienz: Ehemalige Sammlung der Herzöge von Fitz- James. Am Boden befestigt ist eine handschriftliche Notiz vom 31. Januar 1839, aus der hervorgeht, dass das Gefäss ein Geschenk an Graf Alfred de Damas (1811–1837) war, Stallmeister von Henri d'Artois, Graf von Chambord. Nach dem Tod des Grafen wurde es von dessen Bruder an den ursprünglichen Schenker zurückgegeben: „Ich hatte dieses Gefäss am 31. Januar 1839 Graf Alfred de Damas geschenkt. Sein Bruder gab es mir nach seinem Tod zu- rück, ein doppeltes Andenken, das ich vermache...“ A BRONZE 'RHINOCEROS HORN' STYLE LIBATION CUP China, 17th c. L 16 cm. Bronze with a dark patina. The cup is cast in imitation of a rhinoceros horn carving, decorated in relief with blossoming prunus branches. Mounted on a yel- low Siena marble base. The reverse with an old paper label bearing a handwritten dedication dated 1839. Provenance: Formerly in the collection of the Dukes of Fitz- James. Attached to the base is a handwritten note dated January 31, 1839, recording that the vessel was gifted to Count Alfred de Damas (1811–1837)—Equerry to Henri d'Ar- tois, Count of Chambord—and returned to the donor by his brother following the Count's death: “I had given this vessel to Count Alfred de Damas...
