Koller View 3/21

2 Dear Reader, Our summer auctions saw active bidding by more than 1 000 clients from 48 countries, leading to impressive hammer prices, many far exceeding pre-sale estimates. Six results above the million mark and more than fifty in the six-figure range, in addition to several auction records for individual artists, are evidence of a strongmarket as well as our excellent international standing in multiple collecting categories. During the first half of the year, the departments of Old Master Paintings, Swiss Art, Impressionist & Modern Art and Asian Art all recorded seven- figure prices, including 2.44 million francs realised for a study by Anthony van Dyck this spring. In addition, there were strong results for a Burma ruby ring (CHF 810 000), a rare Rolex watch (CHF 626 000) and two world records for colour screenprints by Andy Warhol (Volkswagen, CHF 110 000, and Pine Barrens Tree Frog, CHF 104 000). Our team of highly experienced specialists, combined with an important international clientele and a global network of representatives, enables us OUR view. P. 2 Editorial RE view. Goethe’s words ‘Would you roam forever onward? See the good that lies so near’ may be a bit clichéd, but they are no less true for that – also when applied to the consignment strategies of many art owners. Starting on page 8, we present highlights of our upcoming auctions of Old Masters and Decorative Arts, to be held from 29 September to 1 October. In December, our auction programme will again include modern and contemporary art, Asian art, jewellery and wristwatches. We are happy to accept consignments to these auctions until the end of September. Yours, Cyril Koller Cover: Joos de Momper the Younger (1564–1635) / Jan Brueghel the Elder (1568–1625).
