17 Preview of the Jewellery auctions on 17 June and 2 July 2020 Turquoise – popular all over the world The intensely coloured phosphate mineral not only gave its name to the colour turquoise, it was also used very early on and in various culturesworldwide in themanufacture of jewellery – in ancient Egypt aswell as by theAztecs, the Persians and in ancient China. The exotic gemstone was transported via the Silk Road, themost important his- torical trade route between Asia and Europe.
