7 Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928–2000). Der gelbe Platz (The yellow square). 1958. Watercolour with lacquer on wrapping paper, primed with chalk. 98.5 × 64 cm. Estimate: CHF 120 000/180 000 Vibrant colours and biomorphic forms are the trademarks of the Viennese artist Friedensre- ich Hundertwasser. Early journeys to North Africa shaped his artistic work throughout his life. The spiral, omnipresent among the artist'smotifs, can also be found in this painting. Its year of origin, 1961, marks the creative phase in which Hundertwasser caused a sensation with large international art exhibitions; his first architectural designs followed a decade later. Damien Hirst (1965). Circle Spin Painting. 2009. Acrylic on strong wove paper. D 52.2 cm. Estimate: CHF 5 000/7 000 Hirst has been experimenting with spin paintings in bright colours like this one since 1992, and the artist describes the works as "childish – in the positive sense of the word". At the centre of his experiments is the idea of an "imagi- nary mechanical painter". Sometimes these circular works are exhibited while rotating, which refers to the process of their production. Luis Tomasello (1915–2014). Atmosphère chromoplastique. 1975. Acrylic on panel. 90 × 90 × 8 cm. Estimate: CHF 30 000/40 000 Clear, geometric abstractions – whose frame of reference includes the Bauhaus, De Stijl and, not least, Op Art – characterise Tomasello's mini- malist oeuvre. The influences of light, shadow and reflections are essen- tial, as are the chosen materials. Mark Tobey (1890–1976). Untitled. 1969. Tempera on board. 30.5 × 24 cm. Estimate: 15 000/20 000 In this work, Tobey does not apply his characteristic style of filling the entire surface, but rather forms three-dimen- sional "objects" from two surfaces that appear to bemirrored. In front of the neutral, monochrome painting ground, they appear particularly plastic and vital. ©Damien Hirst and Science Ltd.
