Alberto Giacometti’s younger brother Diego left his mark as a ‘furniture sculptor’, among other things. From 1939 he worked as a sculptor, but beginning around 1950 – and especially after Alberto’s death in 1966 – he concentrated on designing furnishings, including the table and bench in our July auction. In those years, the boundaries between art and craft be- came blurred, and indeed Diego’s furniture is convinc- ing not only functionally but also as sculpture.
