Hercules Segers, one of the most brilliant innovators of printmaking in the early 17 th century, left behind a mere nineteen known paint- ings. In our upcoming Old Masters auction on 22 March, we present the only known pure forest landscape painting by his hand, a remarkable rarity. Once owned by Frederick the Great, Segers’ authorship of this artwork was only recently rediscovered. Another highlight of the auction is Johann König's ‘St George slaying the dragon’ , painted in Rome and inspired by a work by Tin- toretto. The Old Masters sale also offers paintings by Jan Brueghel, Eglon van der Neer and a mystical marriage of St Catherine by Lucas Cranach the Elder. Our Decorative Arts auction features artefacts from the Middle Ages to the 19 th century. Noteworthy among these is a dove-shaped liturgical vessel from Limoges, exemplifying the exquisite champlevé enamel craftsmanship for which the city was famous during the Gothic period. Furthermore, we present a distinguished collection comprising approximately 250 meticulously crafted pieces of cutlery, predominantly from the 16 th to 18 th centuries. This collection awaits your preview solely at our new Munich premises, with the auction scheduled for 21 March in Zurich Hundreds of other remarkable items from our March auction series will be available for preview in Zurich from 15 to 19 March. Turn to pages 20 and 21 for a glimpse into our Swiss Art department, headed by my daughter Laura and me. These auctions take place in the same week as the international modern and contemporary art sales in June and December, alongside jewellery and watches, Asian art and modern design. For those considering consignment to our auctions, we eagerly anticipate your participation. Thanks to a new collaboration, we extend not only international marketing opportunities but also the chance to showcase your consignments in a premier Parisian location before the auction. Yours sincerely, Cyril Koller KOLLER view is published four times annually, in English, French and German. Edition: 27 000. Next issue: May 2024.
