7 Fürstenberg porcelain A small section of the Decorative Arts auction is devoted to early Fürstenberg porcelain, assembled since the 1950s by a collector from an aristocratic family. The works of the manufactory, founded in 1747, were among the most sought-after and rare porcelain objects, especially the Commedia dell’arte figures by Si- mon Feilner from 1754. In 1965, the Zurich collector Siegfried Ducret dedicated a three-volume scholarly catalogue to this manufactory, in which he praised the Fürstenberg creations by Feilner and Desoche as ‘the best porcelain figures of the 18 th century’. Mihály von Munkácsy Munkácsy’s paintings are characterised by liveliness and a painterly intensity. In this genre scene, the Hungarian ‘prince of painters’ portrays high society at the end of the 19 th century. Works by Munkácsy, who came from a humble background, were very popular in his adopted home of Paris and throughout Europe. Two families. Oil on canvas. 88 × 117 cm.
