In our March auction we will present an exquisite and lovingly assembled selection of porcelain gems from an aristocratic South German private collection. The sele ction of porcelain from the earliest period is c omplemented by intimate French furniture of the Régence and Louis XV periods. Influenced by the treasures that surrounded the collector couple since early childhood, they built up their own carefully curated collection and staged it in a fitting interior in their castle in southern Germany. Throu gh their passionate devotion to the subject and regula r visits to museums, as well as contacts with imp ortant galleries, dealers and auction houses, t hey continued to enrich their collection with precious objects from renowned owners. The items shine not only because of the quality of their design, but also because of their prominent prove- nances, such as the barons Max and Erich von Gold- schmidt-Rothschild, the Geneva collectors Giovanni and Gabriella Barilla, and Said and Roswitha Marouf. Highlights among the more than fifty lots of porce- lain are from the early period of Meissen and from the Viennese manufactory Du Paquier: an early Meissen lidded goblet with chinoiseries by Johann Gregorius Höroldt (ill. 1, left), and a Hausmaler tankard from the porcelain pioneer Claudius Innocentius du Paquier made circa 1725/30 (ill. 1, centre). Particularly note- worthy pieces of furniture include a lavishly inlaid sa- lon table signed by François Reizell and a carved gilt- wood X-form tabouret formerly in the collection of Alphonse de Rothschild (ill. 2).
