2 OUR view. P. 2 Editorial PRE view. PP. 2–16 September 2023 Auctions OVER view. P. 15 Contact CALENDAR view. P. 16 In four sumptuous catalogues, which are also available online, our September auctions present a rich selection of Old Master paintings, drawings and prints, books and manu- scripts, as well as fine antique furniture and decorative arts. Of special note is the collection of Dr Sylvia Legrain, which we were entrusted to auction in accordance with her last will and testament. Assembled by Dr Legrain and her husband Dr Fred Legrain with great dedication and connoisseurship over the course of a lifetime, it comprises a large number of antique sculptures which, together with Old Master paint- ings, drawings and latemedieval illuminatedmanuscripts, formed a harmonious ensemble in their home near Bern. This ambience served as a cultivated and inspiring haven for the respected neurosurgeon and her spouse. The cover of this issue, with a beautiful late Hellenistic torso of Aphrodite from the col- lection, as well as the carefully researched special catalogue, is an homage to the col- lector couple. At the same time, this sculpture is a symbol of the timelessness of Greek art, against which almost all subsequent European periods and cultures have measured themselves – whether in recognition or rejection. In KOLLERview, published four times a year before each auction series, we offer you a compact overview of selected highlights from our auctions, which include a great many other objects in addition to the works presented here. Take a moment to peruse and enjoy our catalogues – it’s well worth it. With best regards, Cyril Koller KOLLERview is published four times annually, in English and German. Edition: 27 000.
