ABOUT THE ‘OUT OF THIS WORLD’ DEPARTMENT Cabinets of curiosities, also called ‘Wunderkammer’, were popular among the European royalty, aristocracy and scholars since the beginning of the Italian Renais- sance. They contained a wide variety of fantastic ob- jects and artefacts, with an emphasis on the rare, eclec- tic and esoteric. Through the vast selection of objects, these collections told a particular story about theworld and its history. An exciting department at Koller presents items fromamodern cabinet of curiosities: meteorites, dino- saur fossils, geological wonders, as well as treasures fromthe history of space exploration and rarememora- bilia fromthe filmandmusic industries. The head of the new depar tment is ar t dealer and collector Christian D. Link, who started the Wun- derkammer Gallery in Zurich twelve years ago. Fasci- nated by all sorts of strange and beautiful otherworldly objects since hewas a small child, Link was also attract- ed to the world of dealing and collecting from a very young age. After an almost 20-year career as a success- ful close-upmagician, he became a full-time art dealer eight years ago. ‘COLLECTORS CUT A PATH THROUGH TIME, PRESERVING HISTORY AND STORIES. THAT’S WHAT REALLY FASCINATES ME’. ChristianD. Link 7 ChristianD. Link, Out of thisWorld, Head of Department and ofWunderkammer Zurich
