Koller Review 2024
32 Treasures on paper Books and autographs are traditional collecting areas that have always fasci- nated people interested in literature, art and science, and who seek an aura of authenticity. In times of digitalisation in all areas of life, this love of the analogue original is being discovered by a new generation, as the results of our auctions impressively demonstrate. The sheer di- versity of the lots on offer was highlight- ed by the remarkable collection of 23 au- tograph letters from the psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud to his Zurich colleague Alphonse Maeder, and the magnificent colour plates in natural history works such as John Gould’s ‘The Birds of New Guinea’. Albertus Seba. Locupl. rerum nat. thesauri descriptio et icon. artif. expressio, per phys. hist. 3 vol. Sold for CHF 45 000 ‘Learning never exhausts themind’. Leonardo da Vinci
