Review 2025

28 COLLECTIONS & ESTATES Private art collections and estates always bear a personal signature, reflecting the passions and preferences of their collec- tors. We regularly have the pleasure of bringing works from such collections – some built up over decades – back onto the art market. Prior to each auction, we inspect and document the objects on site before presenting our proposal. Once a consignment is agreed, we take care of everything else, from shipping to sale. Among the collections we auctioned in 2025were an important group of modern illustrated books in fine bindings, a col- lection of Iznik ceramics, reverse glass paintings from Central Switzerland, and a series of silver drinking vessels. Partic- ularly striking was a unique group of me- dieval seal matrices. Outstanding pieces came from the Arlette and Antony Em- bden collection, evoking the splendour of Renaissance cabinets of curiosities. In addition, we offered valuable ancient jewellery from the Kofler-Truninger col- lection and gemstone rarities of royal provenance from the Spanish Borbón y Braganza family. Our auction of 19 th -century paintings also included numerous works from a private art collection, among them genre scenes by Carl Spitzweg and a characteristic animal painting by Alexander Koester.
