Review 2025

30 ANTIQUE &MODERN JEWELLERY Historical jewellery is val- ued above all for its unique aesthetic and historical sig- nificance – not merely for its material worth. When both qualities coincide, an exceptional piece can at- tract considerable attention on the market. One example is a white-gold pendant set with a fine emerald, which rose from a lower estimate of CHF 3000 to CHF 30 000. Historical diamonds in Old Mine or Old European cuts are currently partic- ularly sought after. These cuts emerged in the early 18 th century and remained fashionable until around 1930; they are no longer produced today. At our June auction, a diamond pendant and a diamond ring set with two diamonds in these his- toric cuts sold for a total of CHF 580 000. Another strong trend is signed vintage jewellery and modern pieces by re- nowned makers such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Bulgari. For import- ant works, we draw on our network of specialists and manufacturers to ensure authentication and opti- mal market placement. A pearl and diamond brace- let by Cartier from around 1960/70 was submitted for examination in Paris before achieving CHF 137 000. High-quality gemstones in exceptional colours and siz- es also remain in demand. In June, we auctioned a Cey- lon sapphire weighing over 110 carats for CHF 300 000.
