H 9 cm. Four cases, adorned with flowering orchids in moons- hine against a black lacquer ground sprinkled with sparse gold flecks. The buds are inlaid in turquoise blue glass, the stem and leaves in gold hiramakie with details kirikane. Signed Jokasai. Auf roiro-Grund lackiert mit Shoki, dem Dämonenbezwinger auf einem Shishi (chinesischer mythologischer Löwenhund), die Rückseite mit Oni unter einem Weidenzweig, in Gold und farbigem takamaki-e mit Einlegearbeiten aus Zinn und Perlmutter. Signiert Jôkasai (Yamada Jôkasai). Kugelförmiges ojime aus Achat. A FOUR-CASE INRO LACQUERED WITH SHOKI AND ONI Japan, 18th/19th c. H 7.6 cm. Decorated with Shoki, the demon-queller riding a shishi (mythological lion dog), an oni on the reverse beneath a wil- low branch, in gold and coloured takamaki-e with details of inlaid pewter and shell. Sechseckiges hako-Netsuke mit teils eingelegten Blüten und Blättern sowie crèmefarbenes ojime. Signiert Jôka. A FOUR-CASE INRO DECORATED WITH HYDRANGEA Japan, 19th c. H 8 cm. Black lacquer ground, decorated with magnificently blooming hydrangeas in gold and silver hira- and takamakie. Mother of pearl (raden) inlays accentuate the central flowers.
