Decorated with open and closed flower motif books in hira- and takamakie on a black lacquered base with gold nashiji, a speckled pattern reminiscent of pear skin. The floral motif extends to the metal top bead (ojime), the netsuke in shape of a circular metal medallion is engraved with a smiling sage, signe d 宗与斎 ( Shûyosai?).
