Geneviève Laporte is Picasso‘s lover and

muse from 1951. During their relationship

he creates numerous works with Genevi-

ève as his model. Many of the works from

this period are dedicated to her.

The print offered here is an outstanding

example of Picasso‘s printmaking skill.

Geneviève is sitting in profile to the viewer,

with crossed legs and her head resting

on her hand. Her face is accentuated by

the deep black areas around her head. In

contrast to this the contour of her body

is drawn with only few lines. Despite the

reduced form Picasso uses etching very

effectively to create a highly expressive

print.
