Post-Impres- sionist works encountered Symbolism and early Expressionism, and later, New Objectivity. Not only did the formal vocabulary of painting change, but colour palettes also moved away from nature as a unique model. The enthusiasm of collectors for the innovative new trends was an essential element in their development.
