Sold for CHF 1.06 million to a Swiss collection Giovanni Giacometti, a defining figure in Swiss art around 1900, was represented by ‘Fiammetta II’. The luminous nude from 1909 quadrupled its lower estimate and realised more than CHF 1 million at the June auction. In Novem- ber, this was followed by a panoramic view of the Engadine mountains overlooking the Val Bre- gaglia, painted in oil on cardboard in 1902. This expressive portrait of a landscape with which the artist was intimately familiar sold for CHF 790 000 to a Swiss buyer. An auction record was achieved by the Graubün- den-born artist Not Vital (see p. 13). Louis Sout- ter’s ‘Le monstre amoureux’, a mixed-media work on paper from his late, intensely gestural period, sold for CHF 287 000, bearing witness to Sout- ter’s existential intensity. In addition, works by Cuno Amiet, Félix Vallotton, Augusto Giacometti, Adolf Dietrich, Albert Anker, Alexandre Calame and many other renowned Swiss painters found new owners through our auctions in 2025.
