21 Jacob Jordaens The theme of this large-format painting by Jo rdaens is the fateful encounter between Venus and Adonis. The artist used Ovid’s Metamorphose s – a masterpiece of ancient literature – as a literary model. Along with Rubens and Van Dyck, the F lemish Jordaens is considered the one of the most important representatives of the Antwerp Scho ol. S old for CHF 180 000 Böttger stoneware Early stoneware works from the royal manufactory in Meissen are prized coll ector’s items. The only decoration on this simple plate is the crowned monogram ’AR’ placed in the ce ntre. Sold for CHF 48 000 A pair of vases ’à pot-pourri’ Decorative objects such as this pair of magnificently decorated porcelain vases adorned th e lavishly furnished interiors of the high nobility and royal families in 18 th -century Europe. The ’beau bleu’ por celain was probably made by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Sèvres, while the bronze mounts were likely co mmissioned by Jean Dulac, one of the influential marchands merciers of the time.
