The 10-part series „Ladies & Gentlemen“
was produced in 1975 and was based on
Andy Warhol’s photographs. It depicts mo-
dels who regularly visited the Gilded Grape
night club in New York City.
As in the series „Mick Jagger“ made in the
same year, Warhol plays with various pro-
files and facial expressions. The faces look
almost as though they are assemblages
of individual displaced images, with Warhol
having printed different areas of colour
over the portraits, which, however, give the
faces a certain expression and make them
unique. In addition, they skilfully reinforce
the poses adopted by the models.
